PHNOM PENH. COVID-19 has impacted sporting clubs and organizations throughout Cambodia.  Their ability to train together, compete and travel has been greatly compromised.  These restrictions have been compounded by the stagnant economy, fallen membership and for some clubs, visa suspensions on foreign students, leading to great financial strain placed on Bokator leaders and trainers, many of whom are no longer able to support their clubs and students.

In recognition of this critical situation, in late spring Cineboxx Film & Television Inc., Canada (with support and oversight from Khmer-American cultural organization iKARE USA) embarked on a campaign to raise funds to assist Bokator clubs in Cambodia during these difficult times.  A special limited online screening of Surviving Bokator was made available to North American audiences with 100% of the revenues raised going to assist struggling Bokator clubs and leaders in Cambodia.

The CAMBODIAN KUN BOKATOR FEDERATION and BOKATOR GRANDMASTER SEAN KIM SAN announce that they have now received those funds.

…This money is very helpful at this time to buy some training supplies to keep at the Academy to support kids that live and train there. Very thankful to all Cambodians and foreigners for helping to support us by donating moneys to help me and Bokator families in Cambodia. And I want to thank to Mark and Sandra for their hard work and dedication to Bokator through all these years.

Arrangements have been made with the Federation to provide updates on where and how the funds are being distributed to their members. The first photos to arrive are from Siem Reap province, where a Bokator club has purchased rubber floor mats to reduce injury while training, and a ‘body dummy’ will certainly receive some good punishment. And since nutrition is key to successful training, a good supply of rice will feed trainers and students which live in the club.

Our heartfelt gratitude to all who ‘rented’ and supported Surviving Bokator during this fundraising period.  We can all take pride in what we’ve collectively accomplished.
